Sundar Pichai Promoted as Alphabet’s CEO

Sundar Pichai promoted as Alphabet’s CEO, Google’s parent company! He will be taking over the top position at the internet giant Alphabet’s company after the co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin stepped down from its active management, making him one of the most powerful corporate leaders of the world. Mr. Pichai is now CEO of both Alphabet and Google.

The 47-year-old, Sundar Pichai was born in Madurai in a middle-class family. He once revealed that he got C grade in one of his papers at IIT Kharagpur He joined Google in 2004 and since then has gone from strength to strength. He first made Chrome into the top browser, and this success led him to the post of CEO of Google.

Sundar Pichai has thanked founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin for their vote of confidence in his abilities. In a tweet posted Mr. Pichai said he was excited about the Google parent company’s “long-term focus on tackling big challenges through technology” and praised Larry Page and Sergey Brin for having provided a strong foundation.

Larry Page and Sergey Brin founded Google in September 1998. Since then, the company has grown to more than 100,000 employees worldwide, with a wide range of popular products and platforms like Search, Maps, Ads, Gmail, Android, Chrome, Google Cloud and YouTube. In October 2015, Alphabet became the parent holding company of Google.

Alphabet Inc was created in 2015 after Google reorganized its businesses to make its activities “cleaner and more accountable”. Google itself became a subsidiary of Alphabet, with the division looking after products such as Search, Maps, YouTube, Chrome and the Android mobile phone platform. Some other businesses which were previously owned by Google were moved to become subsidiaries of Alphabet.

Sunder Pichai graduated in Metallurgical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur).
