upGrad Appoints Amit Mehta as Chief Human Resources Officer

upGrad, the integrated learning, skilling, and workforce development company has named Amit Mehta as its new Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO). 

Amit, a seasoned HR professional, will formally assume this pivotal role on October 8, 2024.

Ronnie Screwvala, Co-founder and Chairperson of upGrad, expressed his confidence in Amit Mehta’s appointment.

Amit Mehta himself is enthusiastic about the opportunity. He said, “The current industrial revolution is fueling an unprecedented demand for learning and skilling programs, making this an exciting time for me to join upGrad.”

He added, “It offers a unique platform to design and scale people’s practices in support of the growth strategy.”

Amit said, “I look forward to working with the team at upGrad and leveraging my expertise to foster a progressive culture that drives engagement and innovation to make a positive difference to learners in India and across the world”.

Education and Credentials

Amit Mehta holds an MBA in HR from XLRI Jamshedpur and a B.Tech in Information Technology from VJTI Mumbai. 

His diverse expertise spans HR Business Partnership, strategic advisory roles, and crafting people strategies. He displayed his expertise for Unilever’s India, Sri Lanka, and European markets.

This led to positioning him competently skilled to drive talent growth and organizational excellence at upGrad.

Amit Mehta brings a wealth of experience to upGrad. Prior to joining the company, he had a successful career at Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL). There he held various HR leadership positions.

Notably, he headed the HR function for HUL’s Home Care division and served as the Talent & Organization Director for Unilever’s South Asia markets. 

Over the last five years, Amit accelerated HUL’s initiatives to strengthen its position as an “Employer of Choice”. He also spearheaded Leadership Development & People Analytics for the company.
