Hyundai Motor Company has announced the appointment of José Muñoz as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective January 1, 2025.

José, who currently serves as the company’s Global Chief Operating Officer (COO) and CEO of Hyundai and Genesis Motor North America, will succeed Jaehoon Chang, who has been promoted to Vice Chair of Hyundai Motor Group’s Automotive Division.

Hyundai Motor: Leadership Transition and Vision

José Muñoz’s appointment marks a significant shift in Hyundai’s leadership structure and underscores the company’s commitment to driving its global business forward.

Under José’s leadership, Hyundai has achieved record-breaking sales, profitability, and market share growth in North America.

His election to the board of directors in 2023 as the first non-Korean executive is a testament to the trust in his leadership and his significant achievements.

Since joining Hyundai in 2019, José has been instrumental in steering the company towards its ambitious goals.

He has led global sales, service, and product planning as part of the Global Operations Division.

He drove a profitability-focused sales structure through optimized volume and profit management.

This has resulted in substantial growth for both the Hyundai and Genesis brands in the North American market.

José has also spearheaded Hyundai’s investment in electric vehicles (EVs), batteries, and mobility solutions.

The company has committed $12.6 billion to build the new Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America production facility and two battery joint ventures in Georgia.

This investment is part of Hyundai’s broader strategy to achieve full electrification and advance its Progress for Humanity vision.

Global Management and Expansion

In his new role, José will oversee the execution of Hyundai’s customer-focused vision.

He will build on its leadership position in next-generation mobility, including electrification, diversified powertrain offerings, and hydrogen technology.

He will also focus on advancing the company’s global management system to further strengthen Hyundai’s status as a global brand.

His proven leadership and vast global experience make him ideally suited to lead Hyundai as competitiveness and business uncertainty increase.
