A recent study by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) reveals that Odisha has the potential to create approximately 10 lakh new full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs across three green sectors by 2030.

The study was unveiled at the ‘Utkarsh Odisha – Make in Odisha Conclave’ held in Bhubaneswar.

CEEW Report: Key Findings

The study identifies 28 green value chains, including seaweed cultivation, bamboo processing, floating solar, and e-waste recycling.

These sectors will attract Rs 3.5 lakh crore in investments and directly contribute Rs 2 lakh crore to the state’s GDP, boosting it by 23%.

The three green sectors highlighted in the study are energy transition, circular economy, and bio-economy and nature-based solutions.

The energy transition sector alone could create 4 lakh new jobs by 2030.

Investments in solar, wind, battery storage systems, and electric vehicle manufacturing will drive this growth.

The bio-economy and nature-based solutions sector could generate over 5 lakh jobs, contributing Rs 26,000 crore to Odisha’s economy.

The study emphasizes the importance of building a green economy beyond renewables to drive job-intensive growth and inclusive development.

It proposes the Green Odisha Initiative. This initiative provides a roadmap for integrating policies, investments, and actions across sectors to realize these opportunities.

Vision and Leadership

Dr. Arunabha Ghosh, CEO of CEEW, highlighted that the vision and actions of India’s states will shape the transition to a green economy.

Odisha is leading the charge by securing global climate funding and adopting climate budgeting.

The state’s natural diversity and critical mineral resources position it as a hub for green industries and sustainable livelihoods.
