Infosys Layoffs: 400 Trainees Forced to Leave Mysuru Campus

Infosys, one of India’s leading IT companies, has recently terminated around 400 trainees at its Mysuru campus.

The decision has sparked outrage among employees and labor rights organizations, who claim that the terminations were unjust and forceful.

The trainees were onboarded in October 2024 after a two-and-a-half-year-long wait due to a macroeconomic slowdown that led clients to halt spending on projects.

The company had initially sent offer letters to approximately 1,000 freshers from the 2022 campus hires. However, only around 800 were eventually onboarded.

Infosys Trainees Termination Process and Employee Reactions

According to sources, Infosys terminated the trainees after they failed evaluation tests in three consecutive attempts.

The company has a rigorous hiring process where freshers undergo extensive foundational training at the Mysuru campus.

They are also expected to clear internal assessments.

Trainees were called in batches of around 50 and made to sign “mutual separation” letters.

Many trainees have expressed their dissatisfaction with the termination process. They claim that the tests were extremely tough and designed to fail them.

Some trainees reported fainting due to stress and anxiety over their uncertain future.

“This is unjustified because the tests were very tough and made to fail us, many trainees have fainted as the future looks bleak now,” said one terminated trainee.

Company’s Response and Labor Rights Organizations’ Reaction

Infosys has defended its actions, stating that the termination process has been in existence for over two decades.

The company claims that this process ensures a high quality of talent availability for its clients.

“At Infosys, we have a rigorous hiring process where all freshers, after undergoing extensive foundational training at our Mysuru campus, are expected to clear internal assessments.”

All freshers get three attempts to clear the assessment, failing which they will not be able to continue with the organization, as is also mentioned in their contract,” the company said in a statement.

The Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) has condemned the terminations as “blatant corporate exploitation.”

The organization has filed an official complaint with the Ministry of Labour & Employment. It is demanding immediate intervention and strict action against Infosys.

“This blatant corporate exploitation cannot be allowed to continue, and we urge the government to take swift action to uphold the rights and dignity of Indian IT workers,” said Harpreet Singh Saluja, president of NITES.
