Amazon has announced the elimination of approximately 100 jobs within its Devices and Services division, marking another step in its ongoing corporate restructuring efforts.

The layoffs, confirmed on May 15, 2025, affect teams responsible for developing products such as Kindle, Echo smart speakers, Alexa voice assistant, and Zoox autonomous vehicles.

The move aligns with CEO Andy Jassy’s strategy to streamline operations, reduce bureaucracy, and optimize efficiency across Amazon’s business units.

While the company has been expanding its workforce in certain areas, it continues to trim roles in non-core segments to maintain profitability.

Scope of the Layoffs at Amazon

The Devices and Services unit, which oversees Amazon’s hardware and AI-driven products, has been subject to multiple rounds of job cuts since 2022.

The latest layoffs follow previous reductions in Alexa-related roles in 2023, as Amazon restructured its AI and voice assistant teams.

A spokesperson for Amazon stated that the job cuts were part of a regular business review, aimed at aligning teams with the company’s evolving product roadmap.

However, Amazon declined to specify which divisions within the unit were most affected.

Amazon’s Broader Workforce Strategy

Since early 2022, Amazon has eliminated over 27,000 jobs across various business lines, including corporate roles, retail operations, and cloud computing teams.

The company has also been reducing management layers, with Jassy pushing for a 15% improvement in the ratio of individual contributors to managers by Q1 2025.

Despite the layoffs, Amazon has been actively hiring in other areas, particularly in cloud computing, AI development, and logistics.

The company added approximately 4,000 jobs between Q4 2024 and Q1 2025, reflecting its continued investment in high-growth sectors.
