Ford Motor Company has announced that most of its global salaried workforce will be required to work on-site at least four days a week, starting September 1, 2025.

The decision marks a notable escalation in Ford’s return-to-office (RTO) policy.

It also brings the company in line with other major U.S. corporations—such as Amazon, JPMorgan Chase, and Intel—that have recently tightened hybrid work flexibility.

Background: From Remote to Hybrid to In-Office

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020, Ford—like many companies—shifted to a hybrid work model.

This change was aimed at addressing health concerns and meeting evolving employee expectations.

In April 2022, the company began transitioning employees back to the office under a three-day hybrid schedule.

Over time, this model became the norm for much of Ford’s white-collar workforce.

Ford cited the need for greater collaboration, innovation, and cultural cohesion.

As a result, the company has decided to increase the in-office requirement to four days per week.

A spokesperson said the company believes this change will help accelerate its transformation.

The goal is to become a higher growth, higher margin, less cyclical, and more dynamic organization.

Ford Four-Day In-Office Workweek: Scope and Implementation

The new mandate applies to the majority of Ford’s global salaried employees, although the company has not disclosed an exact number.

Managers and their teams will determine which four days employees are expected to be on-site, allowing for some degree of flexibility within the new structure.

Employees were officially notified of the change on June 25, 2025, giving them over two months to prepare for the transition. The policy will take effect on September 1, 2025.
