Meesho, the SoftBank-backed e-commerce platform, has announced the creation of 12 lakh seasonal job opportunities across its seller and logistics network in preparation for India’s upcoming festive season.

This marks a 40% increase over last year’s festive hiring, reflecting the company’s aggressive push to meet rising consumer demand and deepen its reach into smaller towns and cities.

According to Meesho’s leadership, more than 70% of these roles are expected to come from tier-3 and tier-4 cities, underscoring the platform’s commitment to inclusive growth and rural employment generation.

Sourabh Pandey, CXO of Fulfilment and Experience at Meesho, stated, “In anticipation of this peak period, we have created over 12 lakh seasonal opportunities, with a significant share emerging from India’s tier-3 cities.”

He added, “By empowering Indian businesses, manufacturers, and logistics partners, our focus remains clear: to make e-commerce inclusive and accessible for every stakeholder”.

Seller Network Drives 5.5 Lakh Jobs with Training and Expansion

Out of the total seasonal roles, Meesho’s seller network has contributed approximately 5.5 lakh jobs.

These positions span manufacturing, sorting, packaging, and inventory management.

Sellers have also undertaken extensive preparations to handle the festive surge, including:

  • Introducing new product lines
  • Expanding into additional categories
  • Curating festive collections
  • Conducting inventory checks

To ensure operational readiness, sellers are offering short and targeted training sessions to equip seasonal workers with the necessary skills for their roles.

Meesho Logistics Hiring Sees 90% Growth Over Previous Year

Meesho’s logistics operations have generated around 6.7 lakh seasonal jobs, a 90% increase compared to last year.

These roles are being filled through partnerships with third-party logistics providers and Valmo, Meesho’s logistics arm.

The positions include:

  • First-mile associates (picking and sorting)
  • Middle-mile handlers (loading and unloading)
  • Last-mile delivery agents
  • Return management staff

This expansion is aimed at ensuring timely and efficient delivery across India, especially in remote and underserved regions.

Competitive Landscape: Flipkart and Amazon Also Scale Up Alongside Meesho

Meesho’s hiring initiative comes amid similar moves by other major e-commerce players.

Flipkart has announced over 2.2 lakh seasonal jobs across warehousing, logistics, and last-mile delivery, including roles for persons with disabilities.

Amazon India has created more than 1.5 lakh seasonal jobs and recently invested ₹2,000 crore in infrastructure, launching five new fulfilment centres in Delhi NCR, Indore, Bhubaneswar, Kochi, and Rajpura.

While Meesho’s hiring scale surpasses its competitors in volume, the emphasis on tier-3 and tier-4 cities sets it apart in terms of regional inclusion and grassroots employment.

Strategic Focus on Affordability and Accessibility

Meesho’s festive hiring aligns with its broader strategy to offer quality products at the lowest prices and make e-commerce accessible to every household.

By enabling sellers and logistics partners to scale operations, the platform aims to meet the seasonal spike in orders without compromising on service quality.

The company’s approach reflects a dual commitment: supporting small businesses and ensuring customer satisfaction during one of India’s busiest shopping periods.
