Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has reportedly shut down its office in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, after 13 years of operations.

Media reports indicate that the office was closed in June 2025, with the company gradually moving out its assets.

The development came to light after employees approached Madhya Pradesh Finance Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda, raising concerns over the future of their jobs.

Concerns Over Economic and Social Impact

The closure of TCS’s Bhopal branch is expected to have significant repercussions on the city’s economy.

The office contributed nearly ₹500 crore worth of business annually in Madhya Pradesh and employed close to 1,000 people.

The move not only puts these jobs at risk but also threatens to reduce tax revenues for the state, potentially affecting local commerce and allied industries.

State Government’s Response

Finance Minister Jagdish Devda has written to the TCS CEO, urging the company to reconsider its decision.

In his letter, he highlighted that TCS continues to operate in cities like Ahmedabad, Patna, Lucknow, Bhubaneswar, and Kochi, and requested the same for Bhopal.

He also warned that shutting down the branch could cause severe financial losses to the state and disrupt livelihoods.

Uncertainty for Employees

While the exact reasons for the closure remain unclear, reports suggest that employees are being informed about possible transfers to other TCS locations.

However, many fear that not all employees will be accommodated, raising the risk of widespread job losses.

For the nearly 1,000 professionals dependent on this office, the uncertainty has created anxiety about their future prospects in the state.
