Overview: WFH and Digital Trends 2020-21 in ITes Sector

The Indian ITeS sector has strong rooting in services for thirty years. Even the international product counterparts do not beat them in the top 5 slots in the sector.  Most IT players adjusted to the post lockdown new realities of the universe. All the companies in the sector made massive shifts embracing work from home as the new normal.

India’s major IT service providers like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys, and Wipro are continuing WFH up to 99 percent of their employees. While Tech Mahindra and HCL plan to bring 20-25% workforce back in office.

Infosys announced 2021 as Work from home, flexible hybrid work model for its employees starting from next year.  TCS went a step further to announce permanence for 98%. Being the largest white-collar employer in the county, hiring reconciliations, virtual interviews, and work from homemade buzz for fresher to mid-level hiring.

Most ITes companies had announced to continue work from home till March 2021. Soon Wipro extended it till 4th April 2021.

Recently, the companies announced new products as well that could foster better work from home solutions for the After COVID-19 world.

Cognizant manages to be the hustler, constantly in news for organic and inorganic growth and diversity in the workforce.

TCS was extensively involved in mass recruitment surpassing its competitors in the race when it comes to unique HR techniques and initiatives. To begin with, TCS had an international brush where it acquired Pramerica Technology Services from Prudential Financial with its staff of over 1500.

Also, TCS is planning to roll out a new initiative to give employees a safe working place called a 25/25 staff model where only 25 % will be allowed to work at a time. Considering its name and fame, TCS bagged a spot as one of Fortune’s Best Big Companies to Work For in 2020.

Wipro has an all-time upheaval when it comes to partnerships and alliances. Some of them include – Wipro Digital acquires Rational Interaction to enhancing customer experience offerings, Wipro and Nutanix partnered to launch digital database services, and Wipro partnered with Citrix as well as Microsoft on digital workspaces intending to drive business continuity for its customers.

Wipro also joined the IBM Edge Ecosystem – an initiative to help partners implement large-scale open standards-based cloud-native solutions.

IBM has been the long-time ‘khalifa’ of new business solution and paved the way for one such new offering – blockchain technology. IBM’s growing blockchain networks strengthened the supply chain system in response to COVID-19.

Also with India accelerating its ‘digital’ initiative, IBM strived to put the country on the global innovation map by leveraging the power of technologies like artificial intelligence, cloud, and cognitive computing.

Cognizant has been a prominent IT firm in India and now it also made its name in the international markets by re-positioning itself as a global technology services provider.

With the buying of CodeZero to deepen expertise in cloud solutions, acquirement of Chicago-based cloud specialist firm 10th Magnitude, and partnering with US-based Lev to boost its digital marketing capabilities, Cognizant has come a long way this year.
