The Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) on Thursday clarified that account holders can add nominees to their Employees Provident Fund (EPF) accounts even after December 31, and no deadline has been set for the same till now.

Earlier, this was tweeted by the EPFO following reports that the last date to add nominees to the account online is December 31.

The decision came even as several EPFO subscribers reported that they faced problems with the EPFO portal as they tried to submit the details of their nominees for their accounts.

Nomination is important because a nominee can easily avail Pension (Employees Deposit Linked Insurance Scheme), Provident Fund (PF), and Insurance (Employees Deposit Linked Insurance Scheme) benefits, in case of the death of EPFO account holder, according to EPFO.

Members of the EPF can make changes to their EPF nominations online. An EPF member does not need to seek this from his or her employer; instead, they can modify their EPF nominations online through the EPFO UAN portal.
