India’s largest passenger airline, IndiGo is planning to restore the salaries of pilots by 6 percent from September 2022.  The airline is planning to bring back the salaries of pilots to pre-COVID levels by November 2022.

Another 6 percent hike is planned for November. According to reports, the airline has already reinstated overtime allowance for pilots to pre-COVID levels.

In an internal email to employees on Monday, senior vice-president of flight operations at IndiGo, Ashim Mittra, wrote, “Despite the fuel and foreign exchange costs remaining prohibitive, we are hopeful that we will continue to inch our way back to profitability and higher growth.”

“Our aim has been to constantly revisit our salary and remuneration and reinstate them to pre-Covid levels. Keeping that in mind, I am pleased to announce a further 6% reinstatement of salaries effective 1st September 2022 and the remaining 6% shall be reinstated on 1st November 2022 as we all welcome the festival of lights. These reinstatements will bring your salaries at par with pre-Covid level”, Ashim Mittra added.

IndiGo had slashed the salaries of a large section of its employees when the COVID-19 pandemic was at its peak. IndiGo has also decided to restore overtime allowance for pilots to the pre-Covid level. Earlier, the airline on March 31 announced that the pilots’ salaries have been increased by 8 percent given the continuous steady flight operations.

This move of salary hike has come post, Indigo‘s more than 50% of flights were delayed. The delay was caused due to the sudden absence of a large number of IndiGo employees. The pay hike also comes at a time when the air traffic is improving.

The IndiGo crew members took mass Sick Leave on Air India recruitment day. TATA-owned Air India’s phase-2 recruitment drive was conducted on Saturday. The delays also happened on the same day when Air India conducted a recruitment drive for similar roles across different centers.

Flight operations at the airline returned to normal on Sunday. In comparison, to other airline groups a majority of the Air India, SpiceJet, Vistara, Go First and AirAsia India flights left on time.

Since the airline’s inception in August 2006, the organization has grown from a carrier with one plane to a fleet of 280 aircraft today.

A uniform fleet for each type of operation, high operational reliability, and award-winning service make it one of the most reliable airlines in the world. IndiGo has a total destination count of 90+ destinations with 70+ domestic destinations and 20+ International destinations.
