The micro-blogging platform, Twitter has been hit by yet another lawsuit. A recent lawsuit is been filed for targeting female employees during the layoff process.

The lawsuit has been filed on the grounds that the company is violating federal and California laws banning workplace sex discrimination.

However, during the layoffs, the company laid off 57% of its female workers compared to 47% of men. While comparing the gender disparity it found the company laid off more females than men for engineering roles.

According to the new lawsuit, it was noted that while 63% of women lost their jobs compared to 48% of men. The lawsuit has been filed by two women. These women were laid off by Twitter last month.

Shannon Liss-Riordan said that the women “had targets on their backs” regardless of their talent and contributions post the Musk acquisition.

A lawyer for the plaintiffs, Liss-Riordan is representing the current and former Twitter employees in three other pending lawsuits filed in the same court since last month. There have been claims in the pending cases including:

  • Twitter laid off employees and contractors without the advance notice required by law and failed to pay promised severance.
  • Followed by another claim that Musk forced out workers with disabilities by refusing to allow remote work and calling on employees to be more ”hardcore.

The microblogging and social networking service, Twitter sacked close to 3,700 people. On the other hand, the company fired 90% of the Indian workforce.

Twitter has fired the majority of its over 200 employees in India as part of mass layoffs across the globe ordered by its new owner Elon Musk who is looking to make his $44-billion acquisition work.

The lay-offs in India were across segments such as policy, communication, engineering, and development. The entire marketing and communications department in India has been sacked.

Among Musk’s first moves post he took over Twitter he changed the leadership. Departures include Twitter Chief Executive Officer Parag Agrawal; Vijaya Gadde, the head of legal, policy, and trust; Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal, and Sean Edgett, who has been general counsel at Twitter.
