An Indore-based startup, SoftGrid Computers, has started an initiative to shut down the system after work hours. A message will appear on the computer screen saying ‘Your shift is over, please go home!’

The companies generally favor exceeding the shift timings. However, SoftGrid Computers, an IT startup, has introduced a novel policy to ensure their staff does not end up working inhumane hours.

A LinkedIn user named Tanvi Khandelwal an HR professional working with the company shared a picture of her looking at the laptop screen that displays the words, she said, “This is not a promotional and imaginary post! This is the reality of our office !! SoftGrid Computers.”

“My employer supports #WorkLifeBalance. They put this special Reminder, which locks my desktop after business hours and issues a warning”, the post added.

The mail further said, “NO MORE CALLS AND MAILS OUTSIDE OF BUSINESS HOURS !! Isn’t this fantastic? So, I think if you are working in this type of culture, you do not need any Monday Motivation or Fun Friday to improve your mood! And this is a reality of our office!! Yes in this era we believe in flexible working hours and a happy environment Cheers to all of us!! You can also join us.”

A LinkedIn user wrote, “If only large corporates could learn a thing or two about why organizations that support proper work-life balance (not the pseudo ones, only on paper and mail templates), the attrition rates won’t be so high and people would focus on higher productivity during the working hours knowing that they’re going to have a good evening later and would be more than happy to pull for an hour or two during critical times. The retention rates won’t be so high either, but unfortunately, we’re on the path where overworking is going to be the new normal. Being locked out is not the best idea, rather encourage logging off in time or maybe ask for the reason why one was working beyond time.”
