YouTube appoints Indian-American Neal Mohan as new CEO

A global online video-sharing and social media platform, YouTube has announced the appointment of Indian-American Neal Mohan as CEO.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of YouTube Susan Wojcicki has resigned from her role, Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc informed. She wants to spend more time with her family, health, and personal projects.

“Today, after nearly 25 years here, I’ve decided to step back from my role as the head of YouTube and start a new chapter focused on my family, health, and personal projects I’m passionate about,” Susan Wojcicki said in a blog post.

“This will allow me to call on my different experiences over the years to offer counsel and guidance across Google and the portfolio of Alphabet companies,” she wrote.

She further added, “The time is right for me, and I feel able to do this because we have an incredible leadership team in place at YouTube. When I joined YouTube nine years ago, one of my first priorities was bringing in an incredible leadership team.”

“Mohan will be the SVP and new head of YouTube. I’ve spent nearly 15 years of my career working with Mohan, first when he came over to Google with the DoubleClick acquisition in 2007 and as his role grew to become SVP of Display and Video Ads,” she added.

Neal Mohan, a senior advertising and product executive joined Google in 2008. He has also worked at Google as Senior Vice President, Display and Video Ads. In this role, he was responsible for leading Google’s Display and Video advertising business. Additionally, he was responsible for the company’s advertising product offerings on YouTube, the Google Display Network, AdSense, AdMob, and the DoubleClick ad tech products.

Neal Mohan has also been associated with leading organizations such as MMA Global, Microsoft Corporation, and Accenture.

Neal Mohan holds BS, in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. He completed his master’s in business administration from Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
