WFH Vs WFO Vs Hybrid Model: Which is Better?

The WFH/ WFO/ Hybrid Model is always a topic of discussion. More employees in India want the flexibility to choose where they work and on the other hand, few employees may choose the future of work “all about choice.

Sreehari Tamaraparani, Assistant Director, Acuity Knowledge Partners, shared his view and said, “This is certainly a hot topic and has been discussed quite extensively. But here’s my two cents based on my recent experience.”

“Last month, one of my team members from our Colombo office visited Bangalore and the team spent an entire week in the office together. This was the first time all of them were physically present in the same room. This I’m sure was a great bonding experience. Below are the things I observed”, he added.

  • The communication was quicker and better.
  • Daily Team Meetings turned into quick huddles on the floor which was more engaging than Zoom/MS Teams meetings.
  • Junior members of the team seamlessly interacted with the seniors and clarified their doubts in real-time rather than scheduling separate meetings.
  • The overall camaraderie between team members greatly improved and at the end of the week, we all felt the connection that was maybe not there earlier.
  • WFH is not always 100% option. The future of work is hybrid – a mix of remote and in-person work. The pandemic has proven that remote work is not only feasible but can also be highly productive. However, it has also highlighted the importance of face-to-face collaboration, teamwork, and social interaction which can be lacking in remote work.
  • A hybrid work model allows for the best of both worlds. It can provide flexibility and autonomy for employees while also fostering a sense of community and connection through in-person interactions. This model can also help organizations attract and retain top talent by offering a more flexible work environment.

However, an earlier report claimed that while Indians are more aware of the need to maintain a healthy work-life balance, many of them thrive on working in the office. Around 78 percent revealed they were going to the office by choice. In the survey, about 1,001 employees participated.
