A transportation conglomerate, Uber is laying off 200 employees from its recruitment division. The layoffs are due to cross-cutting measures.

As per the reports of Reuters, Uber is sacking 35 percent of its workforce from the recruitment team. Earlier, the company laid off 150 jobs in its freight services division.

The reductions affect less than 1% of Uber’s 32,700-strong global workforce. The company has trimmed its staff count by 17% at the start of the pandemic in mid-2020.

Recently, OLX Group, the online marketplace and classifieds business arm of Prosus, has announced the reduction of approximately 800 jobs worldwide. Additionally, Grab Holdings will sack 1,000 jobs, or nearly 11% of the company’s workforce.

Moreover, Chingari will sack 20% of its workforce nearly 48 employees. As per the company’s LinkedIn page, it has around 240 employees.

The move of layoffs is part of a larger trend of tech companies cutting jobs and slowing hiring as investors become increasingly fearful of a recession. Tech companies have either frozen the hiring process or laid off many employees.

Amazon sacked 27,000 employees in the last three months. The major companies that laid off employees include Infosys, Amazon, Google, Byju’s, Wipro, and Salesforce laid off a maximum number of workers globally.

Recently, the consulting giant Accenture shocked the industry by announcing plans to trim its workforce by 19,000 globally including India over the next 18 months.

So far in 2023, there have been 1,127 layoffs at tech companies with 317,957 people impacted (1,838 people per day). In 2022, there were 1,557 layoffs at tech companies 243,318 people were impacted (667 people per day).
