The Founder and CEO of Meta Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan have reportedly laid off 48 employees from their organization the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI).

According to reports, the impacted employees will be given 16 weeks of basic pay, along with health insurance coverage and a stipend of $10,000 as severance.

According to the Washington Post, even though the headcount for 2023 is not available, CZI had a workforce strength of 450 in 2020.

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative was founded in 2015 to help solve some of society’s toughest challenges — from eradicating disease and improving education to addressing the needs of the communities.

Through collaboration, providing resources, and building technology, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative’s mission is to help build a more inclusive, just, and healthy future for everyone.

Earlier, Meta (formerly named Facebook) CEO Mark Zuckerberg has written a letter to his employees when announced a fresh layoff of about 10,000 staff.

The CEO previously also urged employees to work from the office to increase efficiency. Additionally, he also said the company’s analysis shows the employees who worked from the office fared better than those who worked remotely.

Mark Zuckerberg said, “As part of our Year of Efficiency, we’re focusing on understanding this further and finding ways to make sure people build the necessary connections to work effectively.”

“In the meantime, I encourage all of you to find more opportunities to work with your colleagues in person… In-person time helps build relationships and get more done,” Mark Zuckerberg added.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s post on layoff read, “I just shared this update on our Year of Efficiency with Meta employees…”

“Our efficiency work has several parallel workstreams to improve organizational efficiency, dramatically increase developer productivity and tooling, optimize distributed work, garbage collect unnecessary processes, and more. I’ve tried to be open about all the work that’s underway, and while I know many of you are energized by this, I also recognize that the idea of upcoming org changes creates uncertainty and stress. My hope is to make these org changes as soon as possible in the year so we can get past this period of uncertainty and focus on the critical work ahead”, Mark Zuckerberg added.
