Sanjay Gupta, the current Country Manager for Google India, has been promoted to President for the Asia Pacific region. This significant advancement places Gupta in a pivotal role within a key geographical area for the tech giant.

Sanjay will succeed Scott Beaumont, who is set to retire by the end of this year after nearly 16 years with the company. The promotion was announced to Google employees through an internal email, as per media reports.

In preparation for his new role, Gupta will be relocating to Singapore in the coming months. Meanwhile, Google will initiate the search for a new head for its India operations.

Transition and Future Leadership

During the transition period, Roma Datta Chobey, currently serving as Google India’s Managing Director for Digital Native Industries, Media and Entertainment, and Government, will lead the company’s Large Customer Sales (LCS) unit, which handles advertising sales to large businesses.

“Google is now at the forefront of an exciting new age of technology with AI. I shall look forward to following the progress, but happily now pass on the baton to my friend and colleague Sanjay Gupta,” Beaumont stated in a LinkedIn post on 24 July.

“Since our first meeting five years ago, I have seen Sanjay’s drive to think ambitiously about how technology can be a power for good in the development of his home country: India. He now has the opportunity to pursue that same calling more broadly across Asia Pacific,” he added.

Gupta joined Google in January 2020 as the Country Manager for India market and also holds the position of Vice President – Sales and Operations for India.
