Welspun Corp Appoints Rakesh as Chief Human Resource Officer

Welspun Corp Limited has appointed Rakesh Mehta as its new Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO).

In his new role, he will be instrumental in shaping Welspun Corp’s global people strategy, emphasizing leadership development, organizational excellence, and cultural transformation as the company continues to expand its diversified business portfolio.

Professional Experience and Background

Bringing over 30 years of experience in human resource leadership, Rakesh has an impressive track record across leading organizations, including Uno Minda, JSW Energy Ltd, Reliance Industries Limited, and General Motors.

Throughout his distinguished career, Rakesh has built a reputation for advancing HR transformation and driving people-centric initiatives that directly support business growth.

His journey spans several leading companies, including Asian Paints, Guardian Industries, Crompton Greaves (now CG Power and Industrial Solutions Limited), and Rallis India Ltd.

Across these roles, he successfully led initiatives in industrial relations, talent management, and capability building—fostering high-performance cultures that have delivered measurable impact.

His extensive cross-sector exposure positions him uniquely to guide Welspun Corp’s next phase of organizational growth and innovation.

Welspun Corp Ltd., part of the $5 billion Welspun World, is a global leader in Pipe Solutions and Building Materials, known for executing some of the most challenging projects such as the world’s deepest, heaviest, and longest pipelines.

As part of its growth and diversification strategy, the company has set up a state-of-the-art Greenfield facility at Anjar, Gujarat, to manufacture 500,000 MT per annum of Ductile Iron (DI) Pipes.

This integrated complex features advanced technology, including a Blast Furnace, Sinter Plant, PCI, and Oxygen Plant. Leveraging its BIS Certified Steel Billets and Direct Reduced Iron capabilities, WCL is expanding into TMT Rebars production while continuing to manufacture stainless steel pipes, tubes, and bars.

In 2022, WCL acquired ABG Shipyard and, in early 2023, completed the acquisition of Sintex BAPL’s Plastic Products business.
