Delhi Government has increased the minimum wages of unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled workers of Delhi and it is effective from October 1, 2022.

The government had earlier raised the minimum wage in May. This hike in wages is due to high rising inflation and has come just before Diwali.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said, “Amidst the rising inflation, this is a big step taken in the interest of the labours. The Delhi government has hiked the dearness allowance for the unskilled working class in the capital.”

“The move will benefit unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled and other workers in all scheduled employment under the aegis of the Delhi government”, Manish Sisodia added

Deputy Chief Minister further said, “This order shall also benefit those in clerical and supervisory jobs.”

Rajesh Kumar, general secretary of the Indian Federation of Trade Union (IFTU) said, “Because of inflation, the nominal wage increase is not going to make much of a difference. Also, it is a fact that only a few companies follow the minimum wages as prescribed by the government.”

“The situation after the pandemic is such that people are ready to work even at a lower salary and they don’t complain or report as long as they are getting paid. The implementation (of the minimum wage) is important. All the labour inspectors in each department have to ensure that companies are following the law and paying the workers as per the law”, Rajesh Kumar added.

The move will benefit unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled, and other workers in all scheduled employment categories of the Delhi government.

According to the statement, the revised minimum wages are as follows:

Unskilled workers– Wage increased from Rs. 16,506 to Rs. 16,792

Semi-skilled workers– Wage increased from Rs. 18,187 to Rs. 18,499

Skilled workers– Wage increased from Rs. 20,019 to Rs. 20,357

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has also said, “Delhi had the highest minimum wages in comparison with other states.”

“Minimum wage rates for supervisor and clerical cadre of employees have also been revised at the rate of skilled workers”, Manish Sisodia said.
