The survey conducted by Telangana Information Technology Association (TITA) revealed that Work from home in the IT sector due to ongoing Covid-19 pandemic is strengthening the family bonding as the techies are spending more time with the family.

The survey, which had a sample size of 500 people (43 percent were women) across 150 projects for over a month, also mentioned that 57% of IT professionals are not keen on onsite opportunities at this point due to the fear of contracting the coronavirus.

“Software professionals, who were previously spending two to three hours in the travel from home to office and back, are now spending the same time with their spouses and families.”

About 89 percent of those surveyed have reported enhanced relationships with spouses and other family members.

Referring to a report by NIMHANS, Bengaluru, the IT sector is among those that see a high rate of marital discord and divorce. The WFH has given time to iron out many such issues, said TITA Global President Sundeep Kumar Makthala.

  • 90 percent of the companies have extended the WFH post lockdown.
  • 82 percent of the respondents said they would like to see the facility further getting extended.
  • 62 percent express that they experienced no undue work pressure during WFH.
  • 89 percent reported enhanced relationships with spouses and other family members.

TITA said the survey was aimed at understanding how the WFH was being implemented and to know the views of the software professional about extending it and other aspects.

Issues with internet connectivity, missing teamwork and occasional power outages remained the key challenges for WFH. About 62 per cent said they had no work pressure while working from home.

The survey, however, found that about 48 percent were putting in 8-10 hours work and about 29 percent said they were putting in 10-12 hours of work at home. A majority of the companies did not give any incentive for WFH.

The survey also reveals that 45 percent of professionals used their bedroom as workplace and about 24 percent had a dedicated work pod while about 22 percent used the main hall to work.

SightsIn Plus team has also tried to check the pulse on Work From Home practices, and while talking to a few CHROs we found that the overall performance has gone-up and efficiency increased.

However current WFM situations are entirely different from normal times but it is the biggest shift while COVID-19 Pandemic and Lockdown.
