The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (aka PM Internship Scheme) has recently made waves in India’s employment industry.

Announced in the Union Budget 2024, this ambitious initiative aims to provide valuable work experience to young minds while contributing to the nation’s growth.

Generating Internship Opportunities

The government on Thursday rolled out the internship programme that will provide financial assistance of Rs 60,000 per annum to 1 crore youth. They will be implementing this over a period of five years.

The PM Internship Scheme is a pilot project that offers internships to aspiring candidates. Over 2,200 internships are currently listed on the dedicated online portal.

The internships are slated to begin on December 2 for which candidates aged 21 to 24 years can apply. Interns will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 5,000 for 12 months, along with a one-time grant of Rs 6,000.

The scheme aims to cover a whopping 1.25 lakh candidates by the end of the current financial year (March 2025).

Over the next five years, the government has set an ambitious target of providing internships to 1 crore candidates. Imagine the impact this could have on skill development and employability.

PM Internship Portal: Details

The heart of this initiative lies in the online portal: PM Internship Portal. Developed by the corporate affairs ministry, this platform serves as the gateway for candidates to explore and apply for internships across various domains.

Starting from October 12, aspiring interns can register on the portal. With limited slots available, early registration ensures a better chance of securing an internship.

This financial assistance through monthly stipends recognizes the value of interns’ contributions.
