Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) reported a net addition of 19.14 lakh members, according to provisional payroll data released by the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

This marks a 31.31% increase over March 2025 and a 1.17% rise compared to April 2024, signaling improved job creation and growing awareness of social security benefits.

EPFO New Subscribers: Youth Dominate First-Time Enrollments

EPFO enrolled approximately 8.49 lakh new subscribers in April 2025, reflecting a 12.49% increase over the previous month.

Notably, the 18–25 age group accounted for 4.89 lakh new subscribers, representing 57.67% of total new additions.

This demographic trend underscores the continued entry of first-time job seekers into the organized workforce.

The net payroll addition for this age group stood at 7.58 lakh, up 13.60% from March 2025, reinforcing the pattern of youth-led employment growth.

Rejoining Members: Job Switches and Continuity in Coverage

A substantial 15.77 lakh members who had previously exited the EPFO system rejoined in April 2025.

This figure marks a 19.19% increase over March and an 8.56% year-on-year growth.

These individuals, having switched jobs, chose to transfer their EPF accumulations rather than withdraw them, thereby maintaining their social security coverage and ensuring long-term financial well-being.

EPFO Female Participation: A Notable Upsurge

The month also saw a significant rise in female workforce participation.

Around 2.45 lakh new female subscribers joined EPFO in April, a 17.63% increase over March.

The net female payroll addition stood at 3.95 lakh, reflecting a 35.24% month-on-month growth.

This surge points to a more inclusive and diverse workforce, with increasing numbers of women entering formal employment.

State-Wise Trends: Maharashtra Leads the Pack

A state-wise analysis reveals that the top five states and union territories contributed approximately 60.10% of the total net payroll additions, amounting to 11.50 lakh members.

Maharashtra led the tally, accounting for 21.12% of the net additions.

Other major contributors included Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Telangana, each adding over 5% of the total.
