Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports, has announced the expansion of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) coverage in Uttar Pradesh.

This development adds 15 more districts to the coverage of the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) Scheme.

It marks a significant step towards achieving comprehensive social welfare in the state.

This expansion has fully covered 74 out of Uttar Pradesh’s 75 districts under the ESI Scheme, benefiting millions of workers and their families.

Dr. Mandaviya emphasized the government’s dedication to extending social security to every eligible worker in the country.

“This expansion reaffirms our commitment to ensuring that no worker is left out of this vital safety net,” he stated.

The notification of these 15 districts highlights the government’s proactive approach to social welfare. It also reflects its commitment to fostering inclusive growth.

Newly Notified Districts and Nationwide Implementation Status

The 15 newly notified districts include Ambedkar Nagar, Auraiya, Bahraich, Gonda, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Kannauj, Maharajganj, Mahoba, Pilibhit, Siddharthnagar, Shamli, Pratapgarh, Kasganj, and Shravasti.

This expansion brings 53,987 new Insured Persons (IPs) into the ESIC network. It increases the total number of IPs in Uttar Pradesh to 30.08 lakh.

The scheme now benefits 1.16 crore individuals, including the families of insured workers.

The expansion in Uttar Pradesh is part of a broader national effort to extend ESIC coverage across India.

The government has implemented the ESI Scheme in 689 districts nationwide, fully notifying 586 districts and partially notifying 103 districts.

However, 89 districts remain uncovered, and efforts are underway to bring these areas under the scheme’s umbrella.

Measures for Further Expansion and Benefits Under ESIC

To ensure comprehensive coverage, the ESIC is actively working on several initiatives:

  • Collaboration with State Governments: The ESIC is coordinating with state authorities to arrange medical care facilities in non-implemented areas.
  • Utilization of Community Health Centers (CHCs) and Primary Health Centers (PHCs): These centers are being leveraged to provide medical care in uncovered districts.
  • Integration with Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY): This partnership aims to offer cashless medical care to ESIC beneficiaries without any expenditure cap.

The ESI Scheme provides a comprehensive social security net for workers, including:

  • Medical Benefits: Access to primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare.
  • Cash Benefits: Sickness, temporary and permanent disablement, maternity benefits (26 weeks), dependent benefits, and funeral expenses.
  • Unemployment Allowance: Support under the Rajiv Gandhi Shramik Kalyan Yojana (RGSKY) and Atal Beemit Vyakti Kalyan Yojana (ABVKY) for workers facing job loss.
