The Construction work on the TCS IT digital and research hub on the Technopark Phase-IV campus at Pallippuram, Kerala begins on Thursday.

TCS plans to set up an incubator centre for technology start-ups, giving a fillip to the start-up ecosystem in the State. The company currently employs 15,000 people in the State.

Tata Consultancy Services had signed a Memorandum of Understanding for leasing 97 acres of land at the Technocity campus at Pallipuram, Kerala to invest Rs. 1200-1500 crore, the project to generate 20,000 direct jobs.

In the first phase, the hub will be located in a 5 lakh sq ft space. With the completion of the first phase in two years, 5,000 people are expected to be provided employment. When complete, the project would generate 20,000 direct jobs.

The TCS hub would focus on new technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Robotics, the Internet of Things, Data Analytics, and BlockChain.

John M Thomas, CEO, Kerala IT Parks said, “The construction work will begin soon after the groundbreaking. However, the ceremony will be a small event involving only some key officials.”

The MoU was signed between TCS and Technopark in the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan who termed the agreement as a major stride in the State’s quest to become a knowledge economy.

The Chief Minister earlier during the MoU signing said, “The setting up of the proposed Startup Incubator within the TCS campus will help to strengthen the startup ecosystem in Kerala. India has acknowledged Kerala as a State having best practices in the startup sector.”

TCS currently employs 15,000 people in Kerala. The construction is expected to be finished in two-and-a-half years.
