During the Karnataka Employers’ Association’s diamond jubilee celebration Wipro’s founder chairman Azim Premji has said that the Gig work is rising.

According to TOI, Azim Premji added that the role of gig workers has become important. He also highlighted that for an economy to work well and be vibrant, we have a culture and system which sees firms and their employees as partners.

“The experience of companies with gig work is that it ensures productivity, flexibility, and companies get access to talent that one would not have within the company,” he said.

“In reality, this is the way for businesses to be successful and prosperous. But too many times we have seen both employers and employees taking opposite positions,” Azim Premji said.

However, Moonlighting is also considered Gig work. Earlier, Wipro chairman Rishad Premji also described moonlighting as “cheating plain and simple.”

Wipro has laid off 300 employees who were found working with its competitor companies at the same time employment with Wipro.

Wipro Chairman Rishad Premji said that their employment has been terminated for an “act of integrity violation”.

“The reality is that there are people today working for Wipro and working directly for one of our competitors and we have actually discovered 300 people in the last few months who are doing exactly that,” Rishad Premji said speaking.

However, Gig work has become a point of discussion in the IT industry. The companies are taking measures to control it as well.
