As per a Hindustan Times report, around 36% of IIT Bombay students are yet to secure jobs in the 2024 placements. Concerns rise over low campus recruitment due to global economic challenges.

However, yesterday IIT Bombay clarified on social media that only 6.1% of its students are seeking job opportunities.

This statement from the institute was made in response to a Hindustan Times news report alleging that 36% of the current batch’s students did not secure placements.

This clarification sheds light on the actual situation, suggesting that the initial report might have been misleading. It indicates that a vast majority of IIT Bombay students are indeed successfully finding placements, mitigating concerns about widespread unemployment among graduates of such prestigious institutions.

Accompanied by a pie chart, IIT Bombay stated, “Lately there has been news that over 30% of IITB students do not get jobs! An exit survey among graduating students in 2022-23 says only 6.1% are still looking for jobs. Here is the survey result for you to decide.”

According to the pie chart published by the Institute, 57.1% of students were placed in IIT Bombay placements, while 1.6% wanted to start their venture.

Based on the pie chart provided by IIT Bombay, 12.2% opted for higher degrees, 10.3% found jobs off-campus, and 8.3% are interested in public service.

Of the total placed students by IIT Bombay, 58.8% were females who secured the placement. Meanwhile, 8.1% of women and 5.6% of men are still looking for jobs.

There are various reactions on X (formally known as Twitter), one user Sambhav Gupta said, said, “Lol this actually proves that the news was correct. Not yet decided, Looking for a job, Public service Job, outside IITB.. These all are all synonyms for “didn’t get college placement”

One more user Natasha Malpani Oswal said, “This is such an IITian response to a PR crisis- I love it”
