Infosys to open 4 new offices in tier-II cities

India’s IT major, Infosys is opening four new offices in tier-II cities like Coimbatore, Noida, and Vizag. The move is aimed to empower the local talent.

The company is planning to transform the new centers into talent hubs and plans to continue to invest in them.

Krishnamurthy Shankar, Group Head of Human Resource Development said that a good number of new hiring’s in the IT sectors can be made from these cities.

Krishnamurthy informed the media, “A big proportion of our employees work from their homes. We’ve looked into it and want to make sure they have options for working closer to home. These aren’t branch offices. It has at least 1,000 seats, and we will continue to increase it as time goes on. All of these offices will be completed by the end of the quarter.”

“The idea is that in the future, these will all be talent centres. As a result, I believe we will continue to invest in and expand them in the future,” Krishnamurthy added.

This move by Infosys will definitely help the young talent to attract talent from across the country and nearly 60 percent of them have returned to their hometowns.

It is planning to hire about 50,000 college graduates in FY23. The company has reported that it has hired 85,000 freshers both off-campus and on-campus in the financial year 2022 and the total headcount stood at 3,14,015 from 2,92,067 within the December 2021 quarter.

Commenting on the development, Sangeeta Gupta, Senior VP and Chief Strategy Officer at Nasscom said, “The trend of moving to tier 2 cities is gaining traction due to their improving infrastructure.”

“Talent strategies are driving location decisions for companies, she added.

During the pandemic, companies had to opt for digital transformation projects to cope with the distribution caused by the lockdowns, remote working, and the popularity of e-commerce. Motivating staff to attend office in person once or twice a week, IT major Infosys has reportedly said that the return to office will be calibrated in three phases.

The company’s senior leaders and teams are coming to offices. However, the majority of its workforce is working from home which is over 90 per cent of its total workforce.

Infosys posted a record attrition rate of 27.7% in the March quarter, faster than the 10.9% in the year earlier and 25.5% turnover rate in the three months ended 31 December.
