Infosys, India’s second-largest IT services company, has announced that it will conduct its trainee assessment on March 18, 2025, following an indefinite postponement last month.

The Generic FA2 is a critical evaluation for trainee engineers. It applies to those who were onboarded between October and November 2024.

This decision comes amidst growing scrutiny over the company’s handling of fresher onboarding and layoffs, which has sparked industry-wide discussions.

The Generic FA2 assessment was originally scheduled for February 2025 but was postponed to provide trainees with additional preparation time.

This decision came after a wave of layoffs at Infosys’ Mysuru campus. Approximately 350 trainees were asked to leave for failing to clear the assessment.

The postponement was seen as a response to criticism from employee advocacy groups, such as the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), which accused Infosys of unethical practices in handling layoffs.

The Importance of Generic FA2 Assessment

The Generic FA2 assessment is a mandatory evaluation for trainees at Infosys. Each trainee is given three attempts to clear the test.

Failure to pass the assessment results in termination of employment.

This rigorous process is designed to ensure that trainees meet the company’s high standards for technical and professional skills.

Infosys onboarded approximately 1,200 engineers between October and November 2024.

These trainees were part of a batch that had received offer letters in 2022 but faced delays in joining due to global economic uncertainties.

The assessment on March 18 will be the third and final attempt for many of these trainees, making it a high-stakes event.

Infosys has faced particular criticism for its handling of layoffs.

Reports suggest that terminated trainees were asked to vacate the Mysuru campus immediately. They were not given adequate time to arrange their travel.

This abrupt action drew sharp criticism from NITES.

NITES president, Harpreet Singh Saluja, stated, “The abrupt termination of the previous batch without due process and the subsequent suspension of assessments for future batches indicate a clear attempt to avoid further scrutiny.”

Infosys Trainee Concerns and Preparations

For the trainees, the March 18 assessment represents both an opportunity and a challenge.

Many have expressed concerns about the high-pressure environment and the consequences of failing the test.

The postponement has given them additional time to prepare, but it has also heightened anxiety about the outcome.

Infosys has not issued an official statement regarding the assessment or the controversies surrounding it.

However, sources within the company suggest that the decision to reschedule the test was aimed at addressing trainee concerns and ensuring a fair evaluation process.
