A former Indian Microsoft employee Alisha Acharya has shared a heartbreaking story of layoff. She was working as a technical program manager with the organization for over five years.

Alisha Acharya shared a LinkedIn post saying, “Heartbroken. I was impacted by the recent round of layoffs at Microsoft. It took me a few days to come to terms with this news but I am back to the grind now. Since I am on H1b, the clock’s ticking and I have limited time to look for a job. Please reach out to me if you have any opportunities.”

“I have 8+ years of experience, started as a systems engineer, and spent 5+ years at Microsoft as a Technical Program Manager working on the Microsoft Learn platform as an International Customer Experience PM”, the post added.

The post further added, “I would like to thank everyone I have worked with in my 5+ years at Microsoft. It has definitely been hell of a ride. Lastly, anyone in a similar situation, my heart goes out to you.”

“Take care of yourself. Hang in there and this too shall pass. #Layoffs2023 #Techlayoffs #OpenToWork #womenintech #H1B“, the post concluded.

Microsoft in January announced its plans to sack 11,000 employees worldwide due to the global economic slowdown. The company was reducing roughly 5 percent of its workforce. The company had planned the layoffs in several engineering divisions. These layoffs have impacted the lives of many employees.

Earlier in October, Microsoft reportedly laid off under 1,000 employees across several divisions. The job cuts impacted less than 1 percent of the company’s workforce.

As of date as per true-up, so far in 2023, there have been 551 layoffs at tech companies with 155,110 people impacted (2,585 people per day). In 2022, there were 1,535 layoffs at tech companies 241,176 were people impacted.
