An American multinational technology corporation, Microsoft plans to build a sizable hyperscale data centre in Pune as part of its multi-city data centre strategy for India.

The company is also working on data centres in Hyderabad and has already signed a pact with the Telangana government.

The Pune-based company has given Microsoft Corporation a 37-year leasehold interest in this piece of land till August 2059. A hyper-scale cloud data centre with a built-out capacity of 100 MW could be erected on the block of land.

Raja Seetharaman, co-founder of Propstack said, “Pune is ideal for setting up large campuses due to the availability of quality real estate, affordable housing, and human resources.”

“However, many corporates have preferred Bengaluru and recently Hyderabad for their expansions. This transaction could be the start of Pune emerging as a strong contender,” Raja Seetharaman added.

Microsoft operates in 190 countries and is made up of more than 220,000 passionate employees worldwide. The company is committed to good and that meaningful innovation contributes to a brighter world in the future and today.

In the month of June this year, over 400,000 square feet of space in a commercial building in Pune was leased by Mastercard Technology for 20 years with rent starting at Rs 4.12 crore per month.

The business’s India division has bought a 25-acre plot of land in the Pimpri-Waghere neighbourhood of the city through a long-term lease transfer arrangement with Finolex Industries.

The land parcel has the potential to develop a hyper-scale cloud capacity data centre with a built-out capacity of 100 MW. The data centre is expected to be developed in the next 2-3 years.

Backed by strong supply completions with healthy pre-commitments, for the first nine months of 2022 (January-September 2022), the net absorption for India’s office space stood at a three-year high of 30.3 million sq ft.
