Most IT companies such as TCS, Infosys, Wipro, and HCL have adopted a hybrid work model rather than calling all employees to work from office.

However, the COVID-19 situation in the country is under control, companies are encouraging employees to join the office physically.

The IT sector can continue with its plans in the future. The firms are worried about the mass resignations that could follow after making work from office mandatory.

Wipro Return to Office and Hiring Plan

Commenting on the return to office plan, Saurabh Govil, President and CHRO, Wipro said, “At Wipro, we firmly believe that coming to office will enable building and reinforcing culture as well as social capital. Having said that flexibility will be a cornerstone of our working arrangements henceforth.”

“We have opened our India offices to fully vaccinated colleagues three days a week.  It is completely voluntary though we do encourage employees to come and experience the office. The significant number of people whom we have hired in the past 2 years have never stepped into Wipro offices! For them, it is a different and enjoyable experience to be with their colleagues in an office. “

He further said, “Outside India, we are following the local norms and guidance.”

Commenting on the Hiring Plan for FY23 he said, “We continue our focus on hiring diverse talent across levels. Our focus continues on hiring talented professionals in different geographies in line with our operating design.

“We plan to onboard over 40k freshers during FY 23. We have already started on the journey by ensuring the right team is in place with the right focus and competencies. In FY 22 we onboarded ~20k freshers. We believe that this will help us build the right talent pipeline for the future.” He added.

HCL Return to Office and Hiring Plan

According to a company spokesperson, HCL has shifted to a hybrid model and informed that the company is currently monitoring the situation and continues to operate in a hybrid model.

The spokesperson said, “At HCL, one of our top priorities is the safety and well-being of our employees and their families. We also remain deeply committed to maintaining our business normalcy thereby ensuring uninterrupted services to our clients. At present we are monitoring the situation and continue to operate in a hybrid model.”

HCL plans to hire over 1500 tech professionals in the next 2 years to expand its operations at the Nagpur campus. At the HCL Nagpur campus, the company aims to increase the headcount to 5000 people at this campus.

According to media reports, HCL Technologies is planning to hire at least 45,000 freshers in the financial year FY23 to cater company’s attrition and growing demand.

TCS 25X25 Model and Hiring Plan

Tata Consultancy Services has asked its top 50,000 employees to work from the office, starting 03 days a week from April this year.

By the middle of FY23, the company will have 20 percent of employees working from offices 80 per cent from home. The company said in a statement that currently only the top-level employees will be asked to visit the office. They will be asked to come 3 days a week and 2 days they will work from home.

TCS has announced that it will implement the 25X25 model in a structured way soon.

“This model will require no more than 25% of our associates to work from an office at any given point in time, and they need not spend more than 25% of their time in the office. But an important part of the journey to the 25/25 model is to first bring people back to physical offices and gradually transition into the hybrid work model” The company said on the 25X25 model.

The company is planning to hire 40,000 freshers in the first quarter of the financial year 2023. TCS has added 1,03,546 new employees in the last financial. This is also a record till date. With this, the number of employees at TCS has reached 5,92,195.

Infosys Return to Office and Hiring plan

Motivating staff to attend office in person once or twice a week, IT major Infosys has reportedly said that the return to office will be calibrated in three phases.

The company’s senior leaders and teams are coming to offices. However, the majority of its workforce is working from home which is over 90 per cent of its total workforce.

Richard Lobo, Executive Vice President, Head HR, Infosys said that the company expects a hybrid model in which approximately 40-50 per cent of employees are likely to work from office post subsequent phases of return to office.

Infosys intends to hire 50,000 new employees in the current fiscal year. It has added nearly 22,000 employees in the fourth-quarter ending on March 31, 2022, with a headcount standing at 3,14,015.
