VinFast Auto India, the subsidiary of Vietnam-based electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer VinFast, has officially inducted its first cohort of 200 employees for its upcoming EV plant in Thoothukudi (Tuticorin), Tamil Nadu.

This marks a significant milestone in the company’s Asia expansion strategy and its commitment to building a robust, inclusive, and future-ready manufacturing ecosystem.

The plant, which is expected to commence operations soon, will have an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles and is projected to generate over 3,500 jobs over the next five years.

Collaborative Recruitment Model of VinFast with Local Institutions

VinFast’s recruitment drive, held in April 2025, saw participation from 344 diploma students from the region.

With support from District Collector K. Elambahavath, the State Industries Department, and Guidance Tamil Nadu’s WorkLabs Cell, the company adopted a collaborative workforce model by partnering with local polytechnic institutions to identify and onboard candidates.

The company’s hybrid hiring strategy includes:

The program includes:

VinFast’s strategy aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry, creating a resilient talent pipeline for India’s clean mobility future.

Strategic Vision for VinFast: India as a Hub for EV Innovation

Speaking on the occasion, Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast Asia, stated, “We are proud to invest in the people and potential of Tamil Nadu.”

He added, “This facility stands as a catalyst for regional growth and will build a resilient, inclusive, and high-performance manufacturing ecosystem that can serve both Indian and global markets”.

VinFast’s India plans include:

  • Launching VF 6 and VF 7 electric SUVs

The Thoothukudi plant is central to VinFast’s Asia growth strategy, positioning India not just as a market but as a production and innovation hub.

Long-Term Impact: Jobs, Skills, and Sustainability

VinFast’s phased hiring plan will scale up to 3,500 employees over five years, with a strong focus on local employment, skill development, and sustainable industrial growth.

VinFast places strong emphasis on community engagement and the Make in India initiative.

This aligns with Tamil Nadu’s vision of emerging as a global hub for electric vehicle manufacturing.

The plant is expected to:
