Infosys, a prominent IT services company in India, is currently grappling with a significant issue: delays in onboarding over 500 freshers. Despite an unprecedented hiring spree in 2022, many candidates have been waiting for more than two years to join the organization.

The majority of those affected are awaiting their joining dates for the role of “system engineer,” a position that is increasingly being automated due to advancements in artificial intelligence.

Infosys Jobs: Candidates’ Frustration

The prolonged delay has left these freshers in a state of uncertainty. Some have missed out on other job offers due to Infosys’s repeated extensions of their joining dates.

Frustration is mounting as templated responses from the company fail to provide clarity. Contact numbers provided yield no meaningful replies, leaving candidates feeling stranded and jobless.

“I am from Telangana and I am a fresher, waiting for my onboarding for over two years,” said a fresher awaiting his joining date to Financial Express.

“My joining has been extended twice, but Infosys has not provided me with a new joining date. Due to this, I missed offers from other companies and now I am jobless,” he added.

“These are some contact numbers, but no one replies to us. They are hiring freshers but not onboarding the remaining candidates who are left out,” another fresher said.

Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES)

Earlier this year in May, on the delay in Freshers’ onboarding, the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) said, “Repeated joining date delays causing hardship. Graduates facing uncertainty & financial strain. Urge @Infosys to provide a clear & expedited onboarding timeline.”

On the Delay, Harpreet Singh Saluja, President, NITES said, “Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) is deeply concerned about the ongoing delay of joining dates for Infosys campus recruits who received offer letters in April 2022.”

“This extended wait has caused significant stress and uncertainty for these students, who may have turned down other opportunities in anticipation of joining Infosys”, he added.

He further said, “NITES urges Infosys to immediately address the concerns of these future IT professionals by setting a firm joining date and providing them with the clarity and support they deserve.”

Infosys Plan and Commitment

Despite these challenges, Infosys remains committed to its hiring goals.

The company announced plans to hire between 15,000 and 20,000 freshers in fiscal year 2025. This was done in their post-June quarter earnings press conference,

However, the current situation highlights the need for better communication and transparency during the onboarding process.

The latest communication from Infosys to one candidate, as of last week, stated: “Please note that new date of joining allocation will be done based on the business requirements.”

“And also as of now we do not have any update on the new DOJs in the coming months,” said Somashekar S from the HR onboarding team, in an email.

An Infosys spokesperson said, “Infosys is honoring all the offers that it has made. Entry-level hiring is a key driver for Infosys to build talent for the future.”

He added, “As onboarding is always aligned with client requirements, we spread the joining dates of various batches”. “This is to align with changes in project schedules and to ensure employees have access to the right training”.

Conclusion

As Infosys grapples with onboarding delays, candidates eagerly await their joining dates. The company’s commitment to addressing employment challenges remains crucial. Timely communication is essential to alleviate the frustration faced by these freshers.

The delays faced by freshers at Infosys highlight the need for better communication and transparency during the onboarding process.
