Indian government has taken a firm stance against online job scams, recommending the blocking of websites that offer fraudulent job opportunities abroad.

This move comes as part of a broader effort to protect vulnerable job seekers from falling prey to these scams and to ensure their safety and well-being.

Government Action and Rescue Operations

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar addressed the Lok Sabha on Friday, highlighting the government’s robust measures to combat fraudulent overseas job schemes.

He revealed that the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has taken steps to request the blocking of websites promoting such scams.

Legal action has also been recommended against individuals involved in these fraudulent activities.

The government’s actions have already yielded positive results, with over 1,600 exploited workers rescued from Cambodia and Myanmar.

These individuals were taken to these countries under false pretenses of lucrative job opportunities. However, they ended up working illegally under exploitative conditions.

The MEA has been actively collaborating with local governments to address these issues and ensure the safety of Indian workers abroad.

Challenges in West Asia and the Gulf

Jaishankar also addressed ongoing challenges faced by Indian workers in West Asia, Gulf nations, and the Middle East.

Common issues include under-payment, non-payment of wages, and maltreatment of Indian professionals and laborers.

The minister assured Parliament that Indian embassies in these regions remain vigilant and conduct regular reviews to assist and protect workers.

To further protect job seekers, the government has launched awareness campaigns to educate potential victims about the risks of falling for fraudulent schemes.

These campaigns aim to inform individuals about the dangers of online job scams. They also provide guidance on how to identify legitimate job offers.
