Pune Labour Commissioner office asked Capgemini to reinstate 300 fired employees during the lockdown

French IT services major Capgemini has been asked by the Pune Labour Commissioner office to immediately reinstate 300 employees who were fired during the lockdown.

According to a trak.in report, during the lockdown, Capgemini had terminated around 300 employees in Pune, Maharashtra. The company is now laying off bench employees in India as COVID-19 hurts business. Capgemini is laying off employees who have been on the bench for more than two months.

The National Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), an IT workers’ union, raised this issue and filed a complaint with the Labour Commissioner Pune.

On the basis of this complaint, the Labor Commissioner office in Pune has asked Capgemini to immediately reinstate those employees who were fired during the lockdown, and to resolve the issue, a conciliation meeting has been also arranged on 13th July 2020 that will be conducted between Capgemini representatives, and NITES Generate Secretary Harpreet Saluja.

According to a few Capgemini employees and IT unions, trouble started for IT employees back in April after the countrywide lockdown.

Harpreet Saluja, general secretary NITES, said, “We started getting complaints from Capgemini starting April”, “Employees had approached the union stating that they were purposely put on bench and forced to resign.” he added.

However, a Capgemini spokesperson said, “At Capgemini, we have a robust performance management process. Performance-related reviews are likely to result in some employee exits which is a standard process across the industry. The bottom performers are given a couple of months to better their performance.”

Capgemini is one of the world’s largest providers of consulting, technology, business/IT outsourcing services and professional services. As of 2015 the company is present in over 40 countries and employs about 200,000 resources. Capgemini is headquartered in Paris, France
