Tata Steel Jamshedpur to employ 500 employees’ children from Feb-March, 2021

In a landmark agreement between Management and Tata Workers Union, Tata Steel agreed to enroll 500 registered dependents of retired employees in a three year phased manner.

Children’s age criteria agreed upon is between 18 years to 42 years. And a written test in English or Hindi based on the candidate’s preference will be held after which other procedures pertaining to their enrollment will take place.

The agreement was signed by the Company’s Vice President (HRM) Suresh Dutt Tripathy, Vice President (HRM) designate Atrayee Sarkar and Zubin Palia while TWU’s signatories were President R Ravi Prasad, Deputy President Arvind Pandey, and General Secretary Satish Singh.

In a press meeting, Tata Workers’ Union announced that 500 registered sons and dependents of Tata Steel employees would be enrolled in the Company the process of which will commence in February-March, 2021. This will be the first time in a decade that Tata Steel will be enrolling registered sons and dependents of erstwhile employees.

TWU president R Ravi Prasad informed that the enrollment of 500 registered dependents was agreed upon during the grade revision agreement and at that juncture, the maximum age limit of candidates was 40 years which the union successfully urged for revision up to 42 years. He said that after the COVID-19 pandemic, the process of enrollment will commence in February-March, 2021.

Elaborating further R Ravi Prasad stated that the process of enrollment will commence with a written examination that candidates will have to answer either in Hindi or English as per their convenience. The questions will be on an objective pattern and the subjects will be up to the Matriculation level.

He further added that successful candidates will then undergo medical tests. Those getting through the medical tests will be selected and will have to undergo one month’s training and will be on probation for a period of six months. The candidates will have to successfully pass the probation period. All trainees will be paid a monthly stipend of Rs 8,778 as per the government’s minimum wage norm. After completion of their training, they will be enrolled in NS Grade 1. The breakup of the 500 enrolled employees’ sons and dependents in three phases will be 175 in 2021, 175 in 2022, and 150 in 2023.
