Zomato introduces ‘Period Leaves’ policy for all Women including transgender people

Today, 8 Aug 2020, Zomato introduces ‘Period leaves’ policy for all Women including transgender people can avail upto 10 days of period leaves in a year.

Founder & CEO, Deepinder Goyal, today sent a note to Zomato employees elaborating the Period Leaves Policy and mentioned that in case you face any unnecessary harassment, or distasteful comments from men or women about the fact that you applied for a period leave, or that you are vocal about it, please report them to speakup@zomato.com – our prevention of sexual harassment (POSH) team will quickly spring into action.

Commenting on ‘Period leaves’ policy on social media, LinkedIn, Daminee Sawhney, Vice President, Human Resources, and Operations at Zomato said, “Be somewhere and do something that makes you super proud! At Zomato, we just introduced our ‘Period leaves’ policy. Starting today, all women (including transgender people) can avail upto 10 days of period leaves in a year.”

“We want to foster a culture of trust, truth, and acceptance, without having people feel uncomfortable about it.”Daminee Sawhney said

How many times have you had to send a message to your team saying “unwell today – taking the day off” and having to answer concerned questions about your health with a feeble “stomach upset/weakness, etc.” when you really wanted to say “on my period, terrible cramps -need a heating pad or some chocolate, so I’m taking the day off”?, Daminee said

At Zomato, we understand that all of us are born with different biological realities. It is our job to ensure that we make room for our biological needs, while not lowering the bar for the quality of our work and the impact that we create. There shouldn’t be any shame or stigma attached in telling people that you are on your period leave., She said.

We encourage you all to focus on your fitness and diet since it has a positive impact on your physical and mental health. Let’s all work towards building a truly collaborative and progressive culture at work!, She added

Last year in June, Zomato extended 26 weeks paid parental leaves for all employees across the globe. Equal paid leaves for men, women, and trans parents. And after that in July the company has started a creche at its headquarters – at zero cost to zomans who make use of it – as steps towards facilitating parental care.
