The year 2023 started on a layoff note many Tech companies have sacked lakhs of employees. So far in 2023, there have been 668 layoffs at tech companies with 184,850 people impacted (2,311 people per day). Amazon has recently announced the second round of layoffs.

Amazon sacked 27,000 employees in the last three months. Recently, the company announced to layoff of 9000 employees.

The employees mostly in AWS, advertising, and Twitch will be impacted by the layoffs. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy shared the information in a blog post.

The impacted employees will be provided packages that include a separation payment, transitional health insurance benefits, and external job placement support.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said, “This initially led us to eliminate 18,000 positions (which we shared in January); and, as we completed the second phase of our planning this month, it led us to these additional 9,000 role reductions (though you will see limited hiring in some of our businesses in strategic areas where we’ve prioritized allocating more resources).”

“As our internal businesses evaluated what customers most care about, they made re-prioritization decisions that sometimes led to role reductions, sometimes led to moving people from one initiative to another, and sometimes led to new openings where we don’t have the right skills match from our existing team members”, he said.

Hardik Khurana shared a Linkedin post saying, “Due to recent Amazon layoffs my role as a Software Development Engineer was impacted.”

“Today is officially my last working day. Although it’s disappointing that my first job ended so soon, I’m grateful for the opportunity to have worked with such incredible colleagues and manager who supported me and helped me develop new skills”, his post added.

His post added, “I also met many amazing people during my time at Amazon who are now helping me through these unfavorable circumstances.”

“As a highly motivated software engineer, I’m eager to explore new opportunities where I can contribute my expertise and skills. If you or someone you know is hiring a software engineer, I would appreciate any support and leads”, the post concluded.
