Expedia, the online travel platform, would be reducing its global workforce by approximately 1,500 employees, which constitutes about 9% of its total staff.

This decision is part of the company’s efforts to undergo an “organizational and technological transformation.”

An Expedia Group spokesperson said, “This year we will be reviewing our operations which we expect will result in approximately 1,500 roles being impacted across the globe.”

“While this review will result in the elimination of some roles, it also allows the company to invest in core strategic areas for growth,” an Expedia Group spokesperson added.

Recently in January Expedia Group appointed Hari Nair, Global SVP, Lodging Partners, to the board of directors of Brand USA, the nation’s destination marketing organization.

The 11-member board is appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce in consultation with the U.S. Secretaries of State and Homeland Security.

Other Companies Layoffs

The Bosch group plans to eliminate 3,500 positions at its BSH home appliances subsidiary by 2027. This move follows a trend among German manufacturers who are grappling with increased expenses and decreased demand.

The company stated that it needs to streamline operations and reduce costs to maintain its competitiveness in a challenging economic climate.

Cisco Systems plans for fresh job cuts, specifying that it plans to eliminate around 729 positions in the San Francisco Bay Area by April.

This announcement comes after the company issued layoff notices in late 2022 to around 4,000 employees. This was nearly 5 percent of its workforce across key business segments.

So far in 2024, there have been 316 layoffs at tech companies with 62,492 people impacted (1,077 people per day).
