In a dynamic job market where technological advancements drive industry growth, B.Tech graduates are discovering that their high-end degrees alone may not suffice requiring additional skills.

Campus recruiters now seek candidates with that “extra topping”—additional skills in emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and the Internet of Things (IoT).

These graduates, armed with specialized knowledge, are not only more employable but also command significantly higher salaries compared to their peers with traditional B.Tech degrees.

Skills in Emerging Technologies & The Impact on Salaries

Campus placements have taken a new turn. Recruiters actively seek candidates who have gone beyond the standard curriculum. What constitutes this extra topping?

B.Tech graduates who have proactively upskilled in AI, ML, and IoT these cutting-edge fields are in high demand. Their ability to apply AI algorithms, analyze data using ML models, and understand IoT ecosystems sets them apart.

Candidates who have interned or apprenticed at firms gain practical exposure. Real-world projects in data sciences, additive manufacturing, CAD/CAM, and business analytics enhance their employability.

The pay packets tell the story. While plain B.Tech graduates have seen stagnant salaries over the past few years, those with AI, ML, or IoT skills have experienced a remarkable rise.

According to staffing and recruitment services firm TeamLease, salaries for B.Tech graduates with these emerging technology skills have surged by 10% in the last year.

Average Salary for Fresher Engineers: Rs 3.8-4.5 lakh per annum.

Salary Range for B.Tech Graduates with Emerging Technology Skills: Rs 7-10 lakh per annum.

This significant difference underscores the value of specialization in AI, ML, and IoT. Employers recognize the expertise these graduates bring to the table.

Industry Perspectives

IT, Manufacturing, and Consultancy Sectors: These industries actively seek knowledgeable and well-trained B.Tech and M.Tech technocrats.

Candidates who have interned extensively or undergone specialized training are particularly attractive.

Their exposure to real-world challenges translates into higher salaries—often 75% to 150% more than their peers without such exposure.

Amity University: Students with exposure to skills like AWS, ServiceNow, cybersecurity, and Sales Force are in high demand.

B.Tech graduates specializing in cybersecurity, for instance, are securing CTCs (Cost to Company) of over Rs 15 lakh, significantly surpassing the general B.Tech average salary.

SRM Institute of Science and Technology: Global capability centers are actively recruiting B.Tech students, especially those specializing in new technologies.

The demand for graduates with niche skills remains robust.
