Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) Updates its Maternity Leave Policy

An Indian multinational automotive manufacturing corporation, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has extended the maternity leave for its employees.

According to the new benefit of Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) will be offering its female employees/new mothers with six months of flexible work options and 24 months of hybrid work options.

The benefit will be provided after approval from the line manager after the end of the 26-week mandated maternity leave. The company will cover the following benefits:-

  • One-year pre-childbirth support, which comprises In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) treatment (75 per cent reimbursement of cost).
  • Reimbursement for daily commutes to work
  • Outstation travel benefits of premium economy or business class travel during the last trimester of pregnancy.

Founded in 1945, the Mahindra Group is one of the largest and most admired multinational federations of companies with 260,000 employees in over 100 countries.

Moreover, as per the company’s initiatives of a five-year journey, it will include one-year pre-maternity, one year of pregnancy, and three years post-pregnancy when the child is not yet ready to attend playschool.

The company is working on bringing in gender diversity but also about retaining gender diversity. Moreover majority of women workforce peruse for a career break or leave their careers post-childbirth.

In order to bring down such cases several companies have designed their policies around offering flexibility to retain women employees

Recently, Citibank introduced a 12-month WFH option for its women employees post-maternity leave in India. The work-from-home option will be available for female employees at the end of their maternity leave of 26 weeks.

Earlier, Paytm to facilitate its employees with best-in-class benefits that prioritize their health, wellness, and work-life balance the company has revised the leave policies and introduced Bereavement and Miscarriage leave for this financial year.

The HR and managers encourage Paytmers to plan their long leave to fulfill their personal priorities. To support the employees going through a tough time, the company has also introduced Miscarriage Leave for Paytmers.

In case of miscarriage or medical termination of pregnancy, they can avail of paid leave of up to 6 weeks under the Maternity Benefit Act, of 1961.
