TCS Introduces New WFO Guidelines for Employees

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has recently updated its work-from-office (WFO) policy, introducing stricter office attendance requirements and specific guidelines for exception requests.

This move comes as part of TCS’s ongoing efforts to balance operational efficiency with employee flexibility.

TCS: Stricter Office Attendance, Exception Requests

TCS has revised its WFO policy to establish stricter office attendance requirements.

Unlike other Indian IT companies that require office presence for two or three days a week, TCS mandates a five-day office attendance policy.

To ensure compliance, the company has linked variable compensation to attendance.

The updated policy outlines specific guidelines for exception requests.

Employees may cite personal emergencies for up to six days per quarter, but they cannot transfer unused days to the following quarter.

For network-related issues, employees can submit up to five entries simultaneously. However, exception requests not processed within 10 days will face automatic rejection.

TCS has also addressed backdated entries and bulk uploads.

Backdated entries are allowed only up to two previous dates from the current date, and missing WFO entry categories can be raised for the current month until the 5th of the subsequent month.

They prohibit bulk uploads or backend entries for seeking exceptions to ensure fairness and consistency.

Positive Workplace Environment

In addition to the updated WFO policy, TCS’s HR head, Milind Lakkad, has emphasized the importance of fostering a positive workplace environment.

Milind has urged managers to provide respectful feedback and promote collaboration, aiming to create a workplace where employees look forward to working and collaborating with others.

Following the quarterly results announcement, TCS confirmed that entry-level employees would receive full variable pay, while mid and senior-level employees’ variable pay would depend on the company’s overall performance.

This approach aims to motivate employees to adhere to the office attendance policy while ensuring fair compensation.

The company may reconsider the strict office attendance policy once stability is achieved, as Milind has indicated.

This suggests that TCS is open to adjusting its policies based on the evolving needs of its workforce and the business environment.
