On January 29, 2025, Andre Eckholt, Managing Director of Hettich India, was reappointed as Co-Chair of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) Furniture Committee for 2025.

This reappointment comes at a crucial time for India’s furniture industry. The sector is experiencing significant growth under the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.

The FICCI Furniture Committee was established in April 2020 with the aim of addressing key challenges within India’s growing furniture sector.

The committee focuses on fostering collaboration between the Government, industry leaders, and stakeholders.

It drives initiatives such as improving raw material availability and reducing logistics costs.

It also focuses on increasing capacity utilization and promoting the development of furniture hubs across the country.

Andre’s Role and Vision for FICCI Furniture Committee

Andre’s reappointment as Co-Chair significantly enhances the industry’s self-reliance and global competitiveness.

Speaking about his role, Andre noted, “India’s furniture industry holds vast potential to compete on the global stage.”

Andre added, “We look forward to continuing the collaborative efforts needed to address industry challenges and position India as a leader in furniture manufacturing and exports.”

As a key player in the industry, Hettich India has been actively contributing to the committee’s objectives.

The company focuses on sustainability, skill development, and fostering ease of doing business.

These efforts align with the committee’s vision of transforming India into a globally competitive furniture manufacturing hub.

The ‘Make in India’ Initiative

The ‘Make in India’ initiative was launched in September 2014 to propel the growth of the domestic manufacturing sector.

It also aims to attract foreign investment to various sectors, including the furniture industry.

The initiative has significantly boosted the visibility and growth of the furniture sector. It has become a focal point for economic development.

India’s furniture industry has a skilled labor force and abundant raw materials.

With rising global demand, India’s furniture industry is positioning itself to become one of the top three global players.

The FICCI Furniture Committee, under the guidance of its leadership, aims to contribute meaningfully to this progress.

It also supports the industry’s self-reliance and export capabilities.
