Reliance Industries Appoints Biswaroop as CHRO Battery Business

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has appointed Biswaroop Mukherjee as Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) for its Battery Business.

The appointment comes at a pivotal moment as RIL accelerates its investments in energy storage systems, aiming to become a net-zero carbon company by 2035.

Biswaroop brings over two decades of global HR leadership experience, having worked across diverse industries and geographies including Asia, Europe, Russia, the Middle East, and Africa.

His appointment is expected to play a central role in shaping the human capital strategy for one of Reliance’s most transformative business units.

Biswaroop Mukherjee: A Veteran in HR Transformation

Biswaroop served as Vice President – People and Transformation at Aker Solutions before joining Reliance.

During his tenure, he led HR strategy across India at a time of significant organizational change.

His career includes senior roles at:

  • Tata Motors – Head of HR for the Commercial Vehicle Business Unit and International Subsidiaries
  • GE Power – HR Leader for Grid Solutions and HVDC across South Asia
  • Deloitte, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, and ABP News Network – handling performance management, employee engagement, and talent acquisition

Biswaroop earned an MBA in Human Resources from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM).

He also completed executive leadership training at the University of Michigan.

Reliance Industries Battery Business: A Pillar of Reliance’s Net-Zero Strategy

Reliance Industries is investing over ₹75,000 crore (USD 10 billion) to strengthen its clean energy initiatives.

This investment will support the development of solar value chains, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and electrolysers at its Jamnagar facility in Gujarat.

The battery business serves as a cornerstone of Reliance’s clean energy strategy. It is focused on supporting India’s energy transition and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
