Former Tata Sons Chairman Cyrus Mistry dies in a road accident

Former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry (54) died in a road accident. This incident took place in Maharashtra’s Palghar district. He died after his car hit a divider.

Cyrus Mistry was traveling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai. He was chosen to succeed Ratan Tata as chairman of the Tata Group in 2012. He was then removed after four years.

Cyrus Mistry was traveling with two persons, including the car driver, who were injured. All the injured persons have been shifted to a hospital in Gujarat.

A senior Palghar district police official said, “The accident took place around 3.15 pm when Mistry was travelling to Mumbai from Ahmedabad.”

“The accident took place on a bridge over the Surya River. It seems like an accident,’’ said senior official added.

Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs & Food & Public Distribution and Textiles, Govt. of India, said, “Deeply anguished & shocked by the sudden passing away of Cyrus Mistry. Indian industry has lost one of its shining stars whose contributions to India’s economic progress will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his family & friends.”

Prime Minister, Narendra Modi in his condolence tweet said said, “The untimely demise of Shri Cyrus Mistry is shocking. He was a promising business leader who believed in India’s economic prowess. His passing away is a big loss to the world of commerce and industry. Condolences to his family and friends. May his soul rest in peace.”
