The Punjab government has announced a transformative Information Technology (IT) policy aimed at making Mohali the premier IT hub of North India.

This ambitious initiative is projected to create around 55,000 job opportunities, significantly boosting the region’s economy and providing numerous career prospects for the local population.

Vision and Strategy for Positioning Punjab as an IT Hub

During the ‘Vision Punjab 2047’ event, Punjab Minister for Industry and Commerce, Tarunpreet Singh Sond, revealed the state’s plan to position Mohali as a leading destination for IT companies.

The policy is designed to attract both national and international IT firms by offering a business-friendly environment and modern infrastructure.

The ‘Invest Punjab’ portal, which has already registered over 58,000 small and medium industries, is a testament to the state’s commitment to fostering industrial growth.

To support this vision, Punjab is undergoing significant reforms to enhance its industrial capabilities.

The first phase of the plan involves upgrading the focal points of five cities, including Mohali, to world-class standards.

These upgraded areas will serve as models of excellence in industrial infrastructure, making Punjab an attractive destination for IT companies.

Economic Impact

Over the past two-and-a-half years, Punjab has attracted investments worth over Rs 86,000 crore. Efforts are ongoing to increase this investment further in the state.

The new IT policy is expected to be a game-changer for the state’s economy. It will be providing a substantial boost to both the IT sector and related industries.

Additionally, the policy includes plans to expand tourism and develop agro-based industries, ensuring a balanced approach to economic growth.

Educational and Skill Development Initiatives in Punjab

In line with the IT policy, Punjab is introducing new technical education courses and certification programs to equip the workforce with industry-relevant skills.

Minister of School Education, Technical Education, Industrial Training, and Information & Public Relations, Harjot Singh Bains, highlighted the importance of aligning education with industry needs to support the state’s industrial expansion.

Addressing environmental concerns, Tarunpreet assured that the cleaning and restoration plan for Ludhiana’s Buddha Nullah is in final stages.

It will proceed once approved by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

This initiative is part of Punjab’s broader strategy to ensure sustainable development while promoting industrial growth.

Punjab govt’s ambitious plan to establish Mohali as North India’s premier IT hub is a significant step towards economic growth.

It also aims to create numerous job opportunities for the local population.
