Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) recorded a net addition of 14.58 lakh members in March 2025, reflecting a 1.15% year-on-year increase compared to March 2024.

The latest payroll data, released by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, highlights rising employment opportunities, increased awareness of employee benefits, and EPFO’s successful outreach programs.

Additionally, 7.54 lakh new subscribers joined EPFO in March 2025, marking a 2.03% increase over February 2025 and a 0.98% rise compared to March 2024.

Surge in Young Workforce Enrollment

A significant portion of new enrollments came from the 18-25 age group, with 4.45 lakh new subscribers joining EPFO in March 2025. This age group accounted for 58.94% of total new subscribers, indicating a strong influx of first-time job seekers into the organized workforce.

The 18-25 age group saw a 4.21% increase in new enrollments compared to February 2025 and a 4.73% rise from March 2024. The net payroll addition for this segment stood at 6.68 lakh, reflecting a 6.49% year-on-year growth.

EPFO Rejoining Members and Job Transitions

Approximately 13.23 lakh members, who had previously exited EPFO, rejoined in March 2025, marking a 0.39% increase over February 2025 and a 12.17% year-on-year growth.

These individuals switched jobs and opted to transfer their EPFO accumulations rather than withdrawing funds, ensuring long-term financial security and continued social security protection.

Growth in Female Workforce Participation

The female workforce saw notable growth, with 2.08 lakh new female subscribers joining EPFO in March 2025. This represents a 0.18% increase compared to February 2025 and a 4.18% year-on-year rise.

Additionally, the net female payroll addition stood at 2.92 lakh, reflecting a 0.78% increase compared to March 2024.

The steady rise in female enrollments indicates a broader shift toward workplace inclusivity and diversity.

EPFO State-Wise Payroll Contributions

The top five states/UTs accounted for 59.67% of net payroll additions, contributing 8.70 lakh new enrollments in March 2025.

Maharashtra led the list, adding 20.24% of total net payroll.

Other states with significant contributions include:

  • Tamil Nadu
  • Karnataka
  • Haryana
  • Gujarat
  • Delhi
  • Uttar Pradesh
  • Telangana

Each of these states individually contributed more than 5% of total net payroll additions.
