The tech giant Google takes legal action against India’s Competition Commission, alleging favouritism towards the e-commerce company Amazon.

Earlier, Amazon had complained about its struggles to develop a modified version of the Android system due to Google’s restrictions.

According to Google court filing consists of a comprehensive 1,004-page document. The CCI’s directive was aimed solely at protecting Amazon’s interests.

Google said, “Globally, FireOS failed commercially due to poor user experience. In India, the Fire Phone was not even launched.”

“Thus, the Commission called Amazon’s lack of attempt to compete in India a failure and attributed it to Google’s agreements.,” the company added.

Google had asked Amazon to make 10 changes to its business model after it found it abused its dominant position in the market with its Android operating system which powers 97% of India’s smartphones.

The CCI’s directive was issued “only to protect Amazon – who complained that its attempts at creating a forked version of the Android did not work because of (Google’s) restrictions.”

The company has approached Supreme Court due to the order by CCI in October. CCI noted in its earlier judgment in October, Google’s contractual restrictions had reduced device manufacturers’ ability and willingness to produce and market devices based on Android forks, thereby damaging consumer interests.

Earlier, in December’s filing, Google said CCI officers had ‘copypasted’ parts of a European ruling against it in a similar case, which CCI denied.
